Serving the Parish of Milton Cambridgeshire
Milton Parish Council has voted twice to push for 20mph limits throughout the village. We now have the opportunity to request that County puts this in. We are asking for the 20mph to replace the 30mph signs at the edges of the village and a section of 30mph northwards to beyond the allotments on Ely Road.
If you would like to comment for or against this proposal please send your response to the Clerk – clerk@miltonvillage.org.uk
South Cambs District Council have given Milton Parish 6 assorted trees which were planted along the bund to replace some of the existing trees which we have lost over the Winter. Hazel Smith and Sarah Corder are seen here carefully planting one of the new trees.
The barriers on the pathway connecting Gunnell Close and Woodman Way have been moved with the gap between them increased from 1.2m to 2.6m.
We took advice from the Highways Department and listened to the comments from the local residents and cycling group before coming to the conclusion that moving the barriers was the preferred option.
The extended width between the barriers allows for easier passage of cargo bikes, mobility vehicles and buggies while maintaining safety for all users.

We have received the following notification of planned works.
“As part of Urban&Civic’s commitment to invest in local infrastructure to support the new development coming forward on the former Barracks site in Waterbeach, further improvement works are planned to upgrade the pedestrian and cycling infrastructure on Cambridge Road, Milton. These works finish the agreed works undertaken earlier this year.
The works will require traffic management to be in place on Cambridge Road for 24 hours a day for a two-week period between 7th November 2022 and 30th November 2022. Three and four way traffic lights will be in place and will be manned 7 days a week, from 9am-5pm. The traffic management must remain in place continuously as full depth reconstruction requires excavations to stay open outside of working hours.
The works will deliver an improved, safer route for cyclists and pedestrians along Cambridge Road and will connect with the expanded pathway on the A10. They include:
– The construction of a new raised, uncontrolled crossing point at Barnabas Court junction along with the provision of new drainage gullies
– New delineations between kerbs and entrances to Jaws Fish&Chips, Unicorn House and Godden Auto Services to create separation from the carriageway
– New tactile paving at Winship and Coles Road junctions
– Refreshment of various road markings along the High Street, including additional ‘cyclist’ symbols to highlight cycle lane
Please see the attached plans for full details of the programme.

We apologise in advance for any disruption caused by these works. We have and will continue to make every effort to minimise the impact of the works and will be conducting a door drop note to residents and businesses in the affected area. Our partners Breheny Civil Engineering have also placed the relevant signage in place along the highway in advance of the programme starting.”
The Church has an area set aside for flowers as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth. They are also hosting a Book of Condolences, and anyone who feels moved to light a candle for the Queen is welcome to do so.
The Church is open on Sunday, or 10am to 12 noon during next week.

A competition ran for several weeks in Milton to find 3 suitable pieces of artwork to install in 3 bus shelters in the village. It ended on Monday 24th January with final judging, following a public vote. The Parish Council who launched the competition in November 2021 held a public exhibition in January where members of the public were able to vote. All the pictures were displayed in large format and visitors were able to vote for up to 3 of the entries. The exhibition received many visitors of all ages who were able to make their choices during the event which was open for 4 hours. There was also the opportunity to vote online.
Parish Council Chairman Hazel Smith said, ‘We had 22 entries to the competition and the standard was very high. It has been good to see the village coming together on this project and producing some impressive artwork. The entries from the children were lovely. We are using money given to us for public art to fund this project and to help us brighten up the village.’
Parish Councillor and lead member on the Bus Stop Art Project, Paul Ellwood said ‘It’s been fantastic. We had a good number of entries and people were able to choose from a range of vastly different art and photography. It will be great when the winning art is finally displayed in our bus shelters in the next few weeks once they are refurbished. I’d like to thank everyone involved for their enthusiasm and for entering the competition.’
