Minutes of the Highways Meeting held on Monday 22 November 1999 at 8.10pm in the Community Centre Present: RJ Farrington (chair) JE Coston R Day RT Summerfield PK Oldham LC Twinn RLE Waters the clerk SJ Daniels 1 Apologies for absence - none 551/99 2 Minutes The minutes of the meeting of 24 May were approved and signed as a true record. 552/99 3 Bus Shelters (520/99) The County Council would contribute £1000 towards a new shelter in the next financial year. The Charities would not consider making a grant until a new home was found for the present one. The clerk: to investigate whether the present shelter could be incorporated into the cycle scheme in High Street/Cambridge Road. AGREED to accept the £1000 and to recommend purchasing a new shelter. The clerk: to obtain two more quotes. 553/99 4 Winter Maintenance Noted that the County Council had agreed to grit High Street/ Cambridge Road. AGREED therefore that there was no need to purchase a salt bin. 554/99 5 Survey of Highways Division Services The clerk: to fill in survey. 555/99 6 A10 (535/99) AGREED to make following comments to Highways Agency: A10/A14 interchange traffic lights should be switched on permanently; Council's suggestions to make the Butt Lane junction safer would not be made until the HA's proposals for this junction were known. Noted that this junction had a serious accident problem. The clerk: to write to Highways Agency - copy to Councillors. 556/99 7 Cambs Transport Plan Council's response: "The Plan highlights the problems but fails to find any solution." 557/99 8 Car Parking on verge opposite Tesco (336/99) AGREED that concrete bollards set back from the carriageway would be the best solution to stop parking on the verge. The clerk: to arrange meeting between RJF, RLEW and Ed Thornton of Cambs County Council. Roundabout AGREED not to change the level of maintenance/planting of the roundabout. 9 Any Other Business 558/99 Verges There was concern about possiblet encroachment on to verge in Cambridge Road. Committee to monitor. The meeting ended at 9.30pm
