PCSO Page Moved Elsewhere

Written 29/04/04

The parish council was told this morning that PCSO Lee Page, who you will have seen patrolling the village over the last few months, is being assigned to other duties until October at the earliest. He is to going be working in Girton, Histon and Impington because the police have lost a regular officer who was previously covering this patch.

It's appalling news as the whole idea behind PCSOs is that they build up relationships in a community and provide continuity of policing rather than only being reactive, as the only regular officer assigned to Milton (along with half a dozen other villages!) is forced to be.

With the school summer holidays approaching, always a time when we have problems with a sub-section of village youth, Lee has been doing exactly the right sort of things to manage this and other problem situations around the village and now, by moving him, the police have destroyed all his good work and left us all to cope with the consequences.

Lee has proved himself to be a great asset to the village - it would be a tragedy to lose him - so today the chairman of the parish council was written to his inspector to ask the police to re-consider their decision.
