Our county and district councillors Jane Coston and Richard Summerfield
along with city councillors and officers from SCDC environmental health
met with Anglian Water last Thursday to discuss the ongoing problem with
smells from the sewage works.
AWA claim to have identified and removed one of the major causes of the
pong. They intend to take a number of other actions in the near future to
further reduce the smell including "construction of Odour neutralising
Sprays along the A14 boundary by the Filter Works, a [GRP] cover over the
Desludging Chambers [and] the installing of Water Traps on the Pasturiser
Vent Columns."
The meeting agreed that ongoing monitoring would be necessary, and
residents and businesses are to be recruited to assist.
They intend to meet again on 10th October to review progress.
