In the elections last week Jane Coston was returned as our county councillor. The voting figures, with 1997 for comparison, were as follows:

1997	1350 (27.9%)	345(7.1%)	3143(65.0%)	-

Overall in the county the Conservatives increased their majority slightly with a net gain of one seat from Labour. The Lib Dems remained unchanged at 16 with Conservatives now having 34 councillors and Labour 9.

James Paice was re-elected as our MP. The figures there were:
