MCC AGM

Written 06/10/05

Last night saw the AGM of the charity which runs the community centre and recreation grounds, commonly referred to as "MCC". The usual format of reports of the activities of their committees was followed by a presentation of the proposals for internal changes to the Community Centre and an extension to the Annexe.

The proposed Community Centre changes include some alterations to the kitchen, the expansion of the office by taking over the space currently used by the gents toilet, and then re-arranging the various rooms to the left of the front door to widen the entrance hall, reduce the size of the changing rooms and create a new gents toilet. The estimated cost of these changes is £110,450 inc VAT.

The main Annexe change proposed is to extend it at the southern end by two bays created a new "community room" and gents and ladies toilets. These would be accessible from the annexe and also from outside giving the potential, by means of judicious door locking, to create toilet facilities accessible to people outside when desired without them having to pass through any other MCC facilities. In addition the proposals include some rearrangement of the rooms on the west side of the Annexe. The estimated cost of these changes is £118,678 inc VAT.

There was considerable discussion of these proposals and some disquiet was expressed from the floor as to the cost and necessity of these works, especially to the Annexe. In the end no vote was taken and it was left for the trustees to decide how to proceed from here during their meeting after the AGM.
