Parish Council

Written 05/10/05

Monday night's meeting began with the sad news of Chris Lock's resignation as he has moved out of the village. Assuming no election is called for council will be looking to co-opt, probably at the next meeting, so if you're interested in being a parish councillor now is the time to pipe up.

It was a long meeting with lots of reports of other meetings, including the licensing applications which have been reported here previously.

Council agreed to pursue the purchase of agricultural land north west of the village for formal recreation (mainly football pitches). The site they are looking at will cost considerably more than the £40,000 the council has set aside for such a purchase (money gained from the sale of recreation land for Barnabas Court) but it is hoped to get grants from other agencies to fill the rather large financial gap.

The state of the youth shelter was discussed and how to proceed in the face of repeated vandalism to it. A meeting is being arranged with the suppliers.

On a related note the parish council has agreed to ask the County Council that the youth club be suspended for a while in an attempt to break the cycle of ongoing problems arising from youths attending from outside the village causing trouble and driving away village youths.

The future of the Country Park was discussed. SCDC are considering introducing parking fees in their car park, which will inevitably result in people parking at other places around the village especially the MCC car park. They are also talking about handing over management of the park to a third party and parish council discussed some possible options.
