Parish Council on Licensing

Written 18/08/05

Your parish council last night agreed to comment on the licence applications for the three pubs who are asking for changes (Lion & Lamb, Waggon & Horses, and White Horse).

They first agreed there should have a general policy on pubs so as to treat them all fairly and to ask that pubs should stay open:

  • no later than midnight Sundays to Thursdays
  • no later than 1am Fridays, Saturdays and Bank Holidays
  • no later than 2am on New Year\'s Eve

(for avoidance of doubt the days referred to are the days the pub opens, e.g. for the Saturday night opening they should close no later than 1am on Sunday morning).

Similarly for public entertainment they said that loud entertainment should be indoors from 8.30pm to 11pm with the windows closed, twice per month on Fridays and Saturdays only. (Essentially this is asking for a retention of the current licence conditions.)

Council then applied this policy to each application by a pub, objecting where the licence being applied for fell outside these parameters.

They also agreed not to comment on the applications by Tesco or Unicorn House chinese takeaway.

Finally they agreed to distribute a public information leaflet produced by the Chairman explaining to villagers what had been applied for.
