With thousands of people using Milton Road in Cambridge each day, keeping
the traffic moving in that area is one of Cambridgeshire County Council's
biggest challenges. In addition, an extra 950 houses and additional car
parking are planned in the area known as the Cambridge northern fringe
east, which is the land between the A14, Milton Road and the railway line.
To cater for these, Cambridgeshire County Council has received funding from
Central Government to address the problems at the A14/A10 roundabout and
in the Milton Road/Cowley Road area.
Following extensive research and planning, Cambridgeshire County Council
has approved measures to improve the traffic flow. These measures must be
completed by March 2006, as a condition of funding from Central Government.
Contractors have been instructed to start on the section of the scheme to
the north of the A14, where land entry has been secured, to take advantage
of the lower levels traffic during the summer holiday season. They are
looking to start on site on Monday 15th August. To minimise disruption in
the area, most of the works will be taking place overnight and at weekends.
However, it is one of the County's busiest junctions, so some delays are
expected and the County Council are asking people to leave plenty of time for their journeys.
